Ten acres at a time it was transformed into a verdant green by water flowing from the wao akua (literally, “realm of the gods”), located in the upper reaches of Mauna Kahālāwai, more commonly known as the West Maui Mountains. They now have more than 8,000 trees spread across twenty-plus acres, expanding to more than sixty within the next few years.
